Redondo Beach Employment Law Attorneys

Fighting for Workers' Rights Throughout the South Bay

Redondo Beach's waterfront location attracts diverse businesses: hospitality and tourism, port-adjacent logistics and shipping operations, professional services, tech startups, and retail. But coastal living comes with coastal challenges: wage theft in hospitality, misclassification in gig and seasonal work, discrimination in male-dominated port and maritime industries, and wage pressures from a high cost-of-living market that often squeeze hourly workers hardest.

At Laurel Employment Law, APC, we represent employees, and only employees, in disputes involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, retaliation, and more. We know Redondo Beach's workforce,  from port workers and service industry employees to professionals and tech workers, and we know how to hold employers accountable when they cut corners on wages, safety, or respect.

How Were Your Employee Rights Violated?

We help Redondo Beach workers navigate workplace disputes across industries, including:

  • Discrimination (age, disability, pregnancy, race, religion, sex & gender, LGBTQ+)
  • Sexual harassment and workplace harassment — particularly common in hospitality and service industries
  • Wrongful termination and constructive dismissal
  • Wage & hour violations, including tip theft, off-the-clock work, and improper deductions
  • Misclassification as independent contractors (especially in gig, seasonal, and service work)
  • Workplace retaliation — the cost of speaking up about wage violations or safety issues
  • Whistleblower claims, including retaliation for reporting workplace safety
  • Port worker and maritime worker disputes
  • Hospitality and service industry wage disputes
  • ADA compliance and disability discrimination
  • Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA) issues

Employment law is complex, and Redondo Beach's mix of industries adds real complications — service workers facing wage theft and scheduling abuse, port workers navigating complex safety and union issues, hospitality employees pressured to work off-the-clock. That's why our attorneys take the time to understand your specific circumstances and build a strategy around them — whether that means negotiating a settlement or taking your case to court.

California Employment Law Protections for Redondo Beach Workers

California's FEHA prohibits discrimination, harassment, and retaliation — protections that apply in five-star hotels and on the dock alike. State law sets firm minimum wage standards (currently higher than the federal minimum wage), mandates overtime at time-and-a-half for hours over 8 per day or 40 per week, and requires meal and rest breaks — period. Employers can't dock pay, require "make-goods," or threaten discipline for taking legally required breaks.

Redondo Beach workers also have strong protections against wage theft: employers must provide accurate, itemized wage statements; tips belong to workers and can't be used to meet minimum wage; and misclassifying workers as independent contractors to avoid paying overtime or providing benefits is illegal, no matter what the employment agreement says.

Federal laws like Title VII, the ADA, and the FMLA add further protection. Port workers and maritime workers may also have additional protections under maritime law and union agreements.

Our attorneys are well-versed in both state and federal law. We help clients challenge misclassification, recover unpaid wages and penalties, file complaints with the EEOC or California Civil Rights Department, pursue CFRA leave, and hold employers accountable for retaliation when workers speak up about violations.
